The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Hugh Schatz can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Sari Budish / Heather Tushinski

My sister Heather and I were so sad to hear of Hugh's passing. Unfortunately, too much time has passed since that date. He will be missed. Heather and I shared our father with Hugh - Eli Schatz. In October 2014, Heather's youngest son, was working in orthopaedic surgery at a hospital in Barrie. Hugh visited the hospital regarding his knee issue, and my nephew recognized his last name 'Schatz'. He met with Hugh and obtained his contact information for us. I had previously been in touch with Hugh years before, only via mail and email. We were very fortunate to connect with Hugh again in 2014, and in 2015 in person, to share stories. When I was very young, I vividly remember Hugh coming to our house in Willowdale once in a while. On one occasion I remember he brought a very large Narwal tusk he obtained while he was in Northern Canada. I was so intrigued with it. He left it with us, and I recall seeing it on our den for quite a while. When we visited Hugh at his condo in Gravenhurst in February 2015, I mentioned that story to him. He smiled and pointed to the left of his fireplace. I turned around, and there it was. Silly, but it brought back so many memories. I had brought him the 2 life saving medals our father received when he was much younger, and worked as a Lifeguard in Toronto, and a couple of pictures that made Hugh smile. We will truly miss him, and hope that this note finds you all well. Sari Budish / Heather Tushinski & Family
